CAN
SA ROCA - CAMINO de SA VORERA - SAN ANTONIO
The
brief history of Can Sa Roca
this original grand Ibicenco finca (Can Vicente
Sa Roca) is well over three-hundred-years-old. It was bought at the beginning
of the 1960s by the millionaire, Albertini, who commissioned the renowned Ibicenco
master builder of the period, Francisco Viñas, to reconstruct the property
into his luxury stately home where he frequently threw lavish dinner parties attended
by such noble gentry as the Shah of Iran and Aristotle Onassis
along with
film stars Ava Gardner, Errol Flynn, Orson Welles and many other celebrities of
that swinging era. Albertini sold Can Sa Roca at the end
of the 1970s to a Belgium playboy who died in the mid-1980s
it was then left
it to his two children, who eventually neglected the property and allowed it to
deteriorate until they finally sold the place. The present
owner is a local Ibicenco businessman, who bought the run down property and for
over the past fifteen years or so he has been putting lots of time and money into
restoring the residency to once again make a stately home of Can Sa Roca. The
main heavy work such as building, a new roof, rewiring electricity cable, replacing
the water piping has now been completed throughout the whole of the property in
accordance to the requirements for it being granted a rural hotel license. There
has also been a new air-conditioning system installed in each of the completed
twelve bedrooms. The personal cosmetic work and furnishing are the next steps
to be taken. There is a private camino (lane) with a good
surface leading up from the main (Camino de Sa Vorera) road to Can Sa Roca, which
is a gigantic country style mansion, perched on the side of a hill enclosed in
fifty-three thousand square metres of private land with secluded gardens and grounds
offering views overlooking the tranquil countryside and also the Bay of San Antonio.
Sa Roca is the largest residences on the island of Ibiza
it
consists of twelve (eight more that can be constructed) complete double bedrooms
all inclusive with bathrooms en-suite and also air-conditioning in each. The front
door steps lead up from the car parking area into the impressive entrance hall
with a minstrel gallery, which has a wooden staircase each side of the main hall
leading up to the first floor where the bedrooms are to be found. To the left
of the entrance on the ground floor there is a large banqueting room that leads
out onto a terrace, gardens and then to the original huge swimming-pool, which
has a purpose built bar and barbecue area. To the right of the entrance on the
ground floor there is another large (breakfast) room and a separate big kitchen.
There is also a patio garden with a fountain directly off the main entrance hall.
The front of the property is facing the south so throughout the day there is continuously
good light from when the sun rises in the east to it setting in the west.
